Multimedia Search on Yandex.com

Internet, September 17, 2010. Yandex search at www.yandex.com now retrieves images and videos in addition to text documents in response to search queries. So, typing [Rothko] in the search box on yandex.com returns not only the information about the artist, but also images of his pictures.

The launch of multimedia search on Yandex.com continues the company’s experimental testing of its international search algorithms. Just like text-based search results, multimedia search results on yandex.ru differ from results on yandex.com. Users searching for [macbook pro] on Yandex.Video will see gadget reviews, first and foremost, in Russian, while the same query on yandex.com will retrieve mostly international feedback.

Yandex has long been indexing international websites and showing links to these sites in search results. From May 2010, Yandex users have had an opportunity to limit their searches only to foreign websites. This option is available on yandex.com or on yandex.ru using a filter.
