Yandex Opens App Store for Android – Yandex.Store

Internet, February 25, 2013. Yandex [NASDAQ:YNDX] has announced the launch of Yandex.Store, an app store for Android. Currently, Yandex.Store has over 50,000 paid and free apps in its catalogue and a convenient search feature to help users quickly find the app that they are looking for. Users can pay for their apps with their bankcard or from their mobile balance if their service provider offers such an option.

“Yandex.Store is a global product and it is already available in eight languages for users around the world,” said Alexander Zverev, Head of Yandex.Store. “We welcome app developers to publish their apps to Yandex.Store and look forward to working with device manufacturers from around the world who wish to install Yandex.Store on their devices. The global market for Android-based mobile phones is very fragmented. There are only a few major players who enjoy a meaningful share, with the remaining portion of the market distributed among hundreds of smaller companies. We are joining the game to contribute to competition that ensures freedom of choice for the end user and other members of the market.”

Yandex.Store offers apps for every taste, including some of the most popular, such as Cut The Rope, Foursquare and others. App search in Yandex.Store returns results in many languages, searches apps by keyword and can find the right app even if the search query is an a different language. The search feature in Yandex.Store is based on Yandex’s search technologies. Currently, the Yandex.Store user interface is available in Russian, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Ukrainian and Turkish, with more languages coming soon.

Payments in Yandex.Store are processed through Yandex’s electronic payment service, Yandex.Money. All apps in the Yandex.Store app pool are verified by Kaspersky Lab http://usa.kaspersky.com/partners/technology-alliances-partnerships/anti-virus-sdk).

Before being published, each new app submitted to Yandex.Store is checked for malware.

“The Android app stores are a magnet for malware developers. The platform’s popularity and the fact that its source code is publicly available made Android a popular target for malicious attacks – 99% of all malware detected on mobile devices in 2012 were aimed at Android smartphones,” says Petr Merkulov, Director of Products and Services Development, Kaspersky Lab. “We provide comprehensive anti-virus protection for Yandex.Store by integrating our special Kaspersky Anti-Virus SDK.”

Device manufacturers can integrate Yandex.Store into their devices at no cost and receive a share of sales revenues. Yandex.Store is already shipped on Oppo, PocketBook, Explay, teХet, WEXLER, 3Q and Qumo devices. Some of them feature Yandex.Store as their default app store. Yandex.Store offers rich customisation opportunities that allow device manufacturers or mobile operators to create fully localised app stores under their own brand name. One of Russia’s largest mobile operators, MegaFon, was the first company to use Yandex.Store to launch their own branded app store GetUpps! in February 2012.

  • Yandex.Store is pre-installed on:
