Yandex Representative Office Now in Ukraine

Internet, September 6, 2005. Yandex opened a representative office in Ukraine. Head of Yandex.Ukraine is Sergey Petrenko, search marketing consultant and founder and owner of Searchengines.ru. The new company’s objective is selling advertisement and developing Yandex services for Ukrainian users.

“Yandex has indexed Ukrainian sites ever since it was opened,“ says Arkadiy Volozh, Yandex CEO. “However, we want to be still closer to the Ukrainian users. Therefore, we made a decision to enhance the Yandex team by adding professionals who are familiar with the Internet market of Ukraine.“

Close to half a million of Ukrainian citizens use Yandex every week. The Yandex company owns the domains yandex.ua and yandex.com.ua. In March 2005, Yandex was registered as trademark on the territory of Ukraine. In July 2005, Yandex held the first foreign seminar for advertisement distributors in Kiev.

“Yandex is already one of the largest portals from the Ukrainian users’ perspective,“ notes Sergey Petrenko. „Still we have to admit that on the one hand, portal services can and should be better tailored for the citizens of Ukraine, and on the other hand, the portal as an advertisement medium should become more familiar and accessible for Ukrainian advertisers. That is what we are going to handle in the near future.“

The office of Yandex.Ukraine will be opened in Odessa in September. On September 20, 2005, Yandex will hold a press conference at the Ukrainian Independent Information Agency (UNIAN) in Kiev. Journalists are invited to apply for accreditation to the company’s press service.
