Internet, August 16, 2010. Yandex rolled out a new map of Ukraine. The new map is now available in Russian and Ukrainian and features a route planning function covering the entire country.
Every street and every city on the map has its name in both languages — the Russian name of the Ukrainian city Mykolaiv is featured alongside its Ukrainian name, and the ‘Квіткова’ street is also displayed in Russian. Map search is also available in both languages, so the users can search in their language of preference. So, Mikhail Bulgakov’s characters on the way to the Turbin family’s home would find it either at the Ukrainian, or at the Russian address.
For the first time the route planning function covering the whole country is available on Yandex.Maps – this time, only for Ukraine. Now, users planning to travel in this country can choose the starting point and the destination point and build the best route for their trip regardless of how far they want to go — to the neighboring town or across the country from Lviv to Donetsk. Traveling through large cities like Kiev, Yandex.Maps users need not worry about getting stuck in a traffic jam, as the service’s route planning tool will suggest a route considering current traffic conditions.
The new map of Ukraine has 54 detailed city maps, including the 18 new maps added today and 36 maps that have been updated. All features of the new map are available both online and in the Yandex.Maps mobile application. To read more about the new map, please visit the Yandex.Ukraine blog.
