Free Admission to Museums at 18.yandex.ru

Internet, April 17, 2009. Yandex announces the start of the yearly online project 18.yandex.ru that lists museum programs, exhibitions and events during Historical and Cultural Heritage Days*. This year, Yandex covers museums as in Moscow, so in Russia’s regions.

During Historical and Cultural Heritage Days, museums and cultural centers offer special events. Many museums have free admission, some of them are open at night, and some others even have free admission at night. Full information about all of this is available at 18.yandex.ru. At the moment, the project includes nine cities and this list is to almost double by May.

«The current version of the project was created using Yandex.Maps API,” says project manager Ksenia Gvozdeva. “Users can search for a museum by name or address and it will instantly be displayed on a map. And those who do not feel like travelling for culture can enter the name of the closest metro station into the search field and see what’s on right next door”.

* Historical and cultural heritage days are the 18th of April, Historic Sites and Monuments Protection Day, and the 18th of May, International Museum Day. The night between the 16th and the 17th of May has been announced as Museum Night.
