Yandex 2005

In 2005 Yandex expanded its reach significantly, both geographically — by opening a representative office in Ukraine, and by continuing a series of regional seminars, and spatially — by launching the Yandex Advertising Network and by making a strategic agreement with the Mail.Ru portal.
Yandex email service learned how to tell bulk mail from spam, the News service learned to show ratings of people, mentioned in the news on this or that topic, and the Market service learned how to monitor product availability.
Yandex.Encyclopedias and Yandex.Lingvo merged into the Yandex.Dictionaries project, and Yandex.Money gave out to users new online wallets.
New services, like Yandex.Addresses, Yandex.Afisha, Yandex.Lenta, and Yandex Personal search, were launched along with the corporate version of “Spamooborona” (SpamDefense) spam filtering software for corporate mail.
The Yandex.WiFi network was expanding (by the end of the year it counted over 200 members in a dozen cities). Yandex-licensed search contest was held in the USA. Igor Makhanek from Belarus won the Russian Open Cup in Internet search held by Yandex and became the sixth “Man Who Found Everything”. Yandex participated in the “Pobediltely” (The Victors) project for the 60th anniversary of the Victory in the World War II.
