Yandex 2002The new Year 2002 was met holding the informational campaign of the new Euro currency which allowed Yandex to get the first Euro in cash in Russia.
Yandex published consumer goods' brands rating “Internet Choice 2001”
The Board of Directors forecasted the company to become profitable in 4Q 2002 rather than expected 1Q 2003. As a result, in August 2002, the profits overtook the expenses and in November Yandex reported its' early profitability.
In spring, Yandex measured the capacity of the Russian internet, which was equal one terabyte (2 to the 40th power byte).
Yandex and the PayCash group introduced a new system of digital cash called Yandex.Money, having a goal to create a universal payment environment on the Russian internet.
Yandex.Mail introduced a junk e-mail filter feature.
In October, the site of popular realty show, Fabrika Zvezd (“Stars Factory”; Channel One) was opened on Yandex. Thus Yandex brought together the interaction between 3 types of media: television, telephony and internet.
That same month, the 3rd Annual Russian Open Internet Search Cup was held.
At the end of the year a new virtual shopping service, called Yandex.Market, was launched. It combined all Yandex e-commerce development efforts: Podberi (find a match), Goods and Guru.
