Yandex 2001

The New Year 2001, Yandex met holding the “Russian people addressing their President” New-Year project and moving to a new office with it's own server room.

Yandex became the winner of the National Intel Internet Award and got prizes in the following nominations:

• Best site in the field of “Network Services”;
• Best site in the field of “Rubricators, search engines, goods and services' online directories”;
• Arkady Volozh became the “Person of the year”;
• Grand-Prix of Russian Internat Academy (RAI);
• Special prize of the Professional Community of journalists and “The Web Chooses You”, special award under the Runet users' voting results.

In April, Yandex launched a new internet competition — Russian Open Internet Search Cup.

Anyone can participate as long as they know Russian language and are well familiar with the keyboard.

There are no limitations on search tools to be used in the competition. The official Cup site is kubok.yandex.ru.

In summer 2001, Yandex became the largest site in terms of audience according to the Comcon-2 and Gallup Media researches.
